A Mother Follows Her Son

The Hadads are a special family, but you would not notice their uniqueness right away. If you met them on the street you would think that they are ordinary people, just like you. One thing that is clear to them is that everyone should contribute what they can: to each other, to the country, to society, to the land.

They live in a little house in Ofakim, and from the living room they can see the main road. Tali is a mother like all mothers - when she talks to her children she asks how they are, quietly tells them that she will always take care of them, and reminds them regularly: if you need me, I am here.

Her son Itamar is a soldier, almost an officer - he works hard, trains non-stop and sets goals for himself.

On the morning of the festival of Simchat Torah, with many sirens in the background, they suddenly heard terrorists in the street. It was clear to Itamar that he would fight them in the way he knows best. With his two friends he fought in the streets of Ofakim and managed to kill terrorists. He was injured and began to look for a hiding place to take care of himself, but he could not find one. The residents were afraid to open the doors. With his resourcefulness, he knocked on one door and told them things that only those who live in Ofakim know.

They were convinced and opened their door, and he calmly explained to them what kind of care he needed. Itamar did not know that at those exact moments, his mother Tali was running after him through the streets of Ofakim, afraid that he would get injured. When she did not find him, she brought the car and rescued wounded people who needed to be treated by MDA (Magen David Adom). The first wounded person brought to her was her son Itamar. She did not stay with him, but took other wounded people to the nearest medical station.

She gave him a kiss and told him: “Mom will be back soon. There are more wounded to be collected. Be strong.” She traveled back and forth, bravely rescuing the wounded with gunfire in the background. Tali felt like a fighter: a warrior without weapons, but with a big heart. She knew she was needed, so she kept on driving.

The Hadad family is indeed a special family. They never left Ofakim, even when it was difficult. They have not even abandoned the city now. Whatever needs to be done they do bravely and with all their heart.
