Have you ever met a man with wings? They say that Yaniv Sarudi had a pair, invisible wings but those you can sense nonetheless – spiritual wings. Yaniv's wings were what drew the smile on his face; the sort that gives people strength. The wings pushed him to never give up, to do good no matter where he was; with family, with friends, in the army. Yaniv's wings carried him high.
Yaniv had been working with his girlfriend Sivan at a festival held in the area where the war broke out. Suddenly, there was a barrage of rockets. Sivan was worried and Yaniv kept things calm. Yaniv wants to battle the terrorists but he stays to look after Sivan. His wings wrap her up tight. Under terrorist fire, they help the wounded and when a terrorist comes near, Yaniv bravely gets rid of him.
The situation worsens; they need to run. Yaniv and Sivan begin running to their car and screaming at everyone they see around them to come with. The car speeds away. But wait, it can't. They find people hiding in the bushes and Yaniv is not going to give up on them. How do you pack another five people into a full car/ Anything is possible when you want and when you believe.
The overpacked car starts moving ahead, as though it too had suddenly sprouted wings.
Yaniv calmly leads the group. He decides to drive to the nearest IDF base, where he's sure they'll be safe. The way there is dangerous too and there are many terrorists waiting on the roadside. Yaniv is wounded as he tries to steer the car to a safe base, but Yaniv has wings; he doesn't stop.
The car reaches the IDF base and there are non-stop sounds of battle there as well. Yaniv screeches the car to a halt next to one of the buildings and leads all his friends quickly inside, to a safe space. He stays in the car though, wounded, through the long hours of fighting until he can be treated. When he finally reached the hospital, Yaniv was gravely wounded, his wings collapsed, and he passed away.
This courageous man, using his incredible spirit and his strength, saved the lives of eight people.
He was an angel in death and bore spirit wings in his life.
